As much as we think we don&#8217;t, we do. We are created for community, for relationships. As famed professor at Dallas Seminary, Howard Hendricks, often argued \u201cevery Christ-follower needs at least three kinds of spiritual relationships in our lives: a Barnabas, a Timothy and a Paul.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-c66c5f7 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"c66c5f7\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7cd2b2a\" data-id=\"7cd2b2a\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-14b9d75 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"14b9d75\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Nurturing such intentional relationships\u2014peers to walk beside, teachable folks with whom to share a truth we\u2019ve learned, and mentors to encourage us \u2014contributes to the health and vitality of our relationship with Christ.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d342319 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d342319\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a4a6ac7\" data-id=\"a4a6ac7\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-beac579 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"beac579\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A Barnabas: Peers on the Journey<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a429623 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a429623\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-0544d72\" data-id=\"0544d72\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a253960 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a253960\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the Book of Acts, Barnabas reached out to Paul when no one else would. He eventually ministered along side of Paul on his first missionary journey. The early Christ-followers gave him the nickname: the Son of Encouragement. We all need mutually-encouraging relationships with \u201cBarnabas-figures.\u201d<\/p><p>They are folks who are at similar places in their walks with God\u2014facing the same types of challenges we face. Having friends to walk alongside as we strive to know Christ, to make Him known, and live out our calling to the academy encourages us. Their lives are real and become mutual. We pray for them, they pray for us. These friends remind us that though the journey is difficult, we\u2019re not the only one on the road.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center\">To find a Barnabas, ask:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center\">With whom do you identify? Is there anyone you have a sense of camaraderie with? Who encourages you in your walk with God?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7fd2a78 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"7fd2a78\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4cc6109\" data-id=\"4cc6109\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-501c055 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"501c055\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A Timothy: Someone to Mentor<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d4930be elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d4930be\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-1eab5c9\" data-id=\"1eab5c9\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e9fb08 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8e9fb08\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Timothy was a younger Christian, Paul\u2019s son in the faith and his key disciple. Paul taught him everything he knew and trusted that Timothy would pass it on to others (2 Timothy 2:2). Timothy grew to play a major role in the early church because of Paul\u2019s influence.<\/p><p>All of us need to make an investment in a Timothy\u2014normally a younger Christ-following colleague with whom we commit to helping grow in the walk with Christ and their calling in life and the academy.<\/p><p>Mentoring includes modeling our walk with Christ, considering together questions about faith and life, and choosing to raise questions and conversations that help others take the next steps in their spiritual journey. We all need to give to and invest in others \u2013 it\u2019s healthy, it makes us better learners, and it brings needed, though informal, accountability to our lives.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center\"><u>To find a Timothy, ask:<\/u><\/p><p style=\"text-align: center\">Is there anyone (faculty colleague or key student) who seeks you out for spiritual and life advice and usually follows it? Who is dealing with questions, situations or issues that God has brought you through?\u00a0 Do you know someone who really seems to trust you?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7d7a671 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"7d7a671\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-0f5611f\" data-id=\"0f5611f\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8db0831 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8db0831\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A Paul: A Mentor for the Mentor<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-13c40cb elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"13c40cb\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-b9ec64d\" data-id=\"b9ec64d\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bcc1fe2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bcc1fe2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This last relationship goes missing from our lives more often than the others. Maybe it\u2019s due to getting older or to our position (or perhaps, it\u2019s just pride), but it\u2019s often harder to find a mentor for the mentor\u2014to find a Paul for us as Timothys.<\/p><p>Finding a mentor is not easy. What does a good mentor look like? Is he or she older than us? Does he need to be a man (or woman) simply because he (or she) is our gender? Has my mentor walked with Jesus longer than I have? Probably, but?<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center\"><u>To find a Paul, begin here:\u00a0<\/u><\/p><p style=\"text-align: center\">From whom do you learn easily? Whom do you respect\u2014both as a Christ-follower and as a professional? Whom do you trust? Whom would you want to be more like (spiritually speaking)?
