Important in my dissertation had been Heidegger\u2019s essay, \u201cThe Origin of the Work of Art,\u201d where he describes art as a happening of truth,\u00a0<em>aletheia<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; an unconcealing. This concept continues to find significance for me.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ccc22bb elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"ccc22bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.cru.org\/faculty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/652\/2025\/04\/unnamed-3-e1744727587990.jpg?w=741\" title=\"Transformation\" alt=\"Transformation\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-376f834 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"376f834\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ac89094\" data-id=\"ac89094\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4608187 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4608187\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recently I exhibited a small two-part mini-series entitled: Imaginal Disc 1:\u00a0<em>Goo of Lament<\/em>\u00a0(pictured above on right), and Imaginal Disc 2:\u00a0<em>Raising of Lazarus<\/em>\u00a0(pictured above on left).<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: center\"><strong>The Viewer Can Participate<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Working toward the last faculty exhibit, I found inspiration in the art of two friends of my family. The first was the painting\u00a0<em>Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead<\/em>, by Edward Knippers. In it, Jesus, wrapped in white, reaches out to touch his friend.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400\">I imagine this moment where the decay process is reversed, and strips of linen unravel. In my stained glass version, I cut several options and eventually placed a mirror where Lazarus\u2019 face would be so the viewer can participate in the life-giving moment.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: center\"><strong>It Was Awful<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The other one was inspired by photographer Glenn Howell\u2019s documentation of the monarch butterfly lifecycle in his garden. I closely had followed his posts, anticipating the day the chrysalis would crack open. I identified with and began researching the chrysalis phase. It was awful!<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400\">But I loved the fact that tiny slivers called \u201cimaginal discs\u201d or cells, unnecessary to the caterpillar, were integral through metamorphosis to become the butterfly. When I read about the imaginal discs inside the chrysalis, it resonated with me.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: center\"><strong>A Major Goo Experience<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400\">I had experienced a major goo phase several years ago including relational traumas and grieved losses. In the chrysalis image, I connected with how God saw slivers of faith in me and was at work to remove sludge to reconstruct and transform what remained into new life.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400\">As in the Lazarus image, what went dormant in me was given life.<\/p><blockquote style=\"font-weight: 400\">The incarnation changes everything.
