At first, the idea of going on a mission trip felt completely out of reach. As a sophomore in high school, Abby couldn’t imagine flying across the world to share her faith. But when Cru opened the door to go to Zimbabwe, something inside her stirred. Encouraged by her sister and supported by her leader, Jean Johnston, she decided to step out in faith.
The hardest part came before the plane ever left the ground—raising support. Asking people for money felt intimidating, even impossible. But as she reached out, she found something beautiful: people wanted to invest not just in a trip, but in her. Each conversation deepened her trust in God and reminded her that she wasn’t doing this alone.
But as she reached out, she found something beautiful: people wanted to invest not just in a trip, but in her.
When Abby finally arrived in Zimbabwe, she met a group of students who couldn’t have been more different. If they’d met in a high school cafeteria, they’d have sat at separate tables—but on this trip, they became family. Through laughter, shared experiences, and serving together, she saw God at work in powerful ways. The trip left her changed, convinced that the gospel needs to be shared both at home and across the world.
